Albert Berry (1878-1949) was active in Alaska and Washington State.  He was born in Huddersfield, England on July 29, 1878.  His family moved to the New England area in the late 1880s.  In 1896, Berry enrolled in evening classes at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island.  He attended RISD on a City Scholarship and initially studied Elementary Free Hand Drawing.  He supported himself as a clerk in Providence and continued to study Advanced Freehand Drawing, Life Drawing, Modeling, and Design on a State Scholarship until 1901. 

His primary instruction at RISD was provided by Stacy Tolman, Frederick Kohlhagen, and Theodore Hanford Pond.  His younger brother Wilfred followed a similar educational trajectory at RISD and the brothers lived and worked together in Providence during this time.
